ART THERAPIST STATEMENT

As an artist, but as a human, first and foremost- I believe we are inherently made to create and that we all have the ability to expand our ways of creation and find ways to communicate. To let ourselves be creative and communicate our humaness and our experiences in grounded, sensitive and centered avenues.  In turn we can expand our story and the world as we perceive it in a safe, stable and predictable space. There are no skills necessary to create because it is already within us since the very dawn of wo(man). Sometimes we are in need of a guidance to re-gain access to our true nature and creative fires. My work as an art psychotherapist allows me to explore other perspectives, share my love for art, love of psychology and enjoyment in art-making with others. Overtime, I continue to experience the energizing and healing powers of art making and have witnessed this process not only in myself and others included. Making art especially painting brings substance, depth and wholeness into my life—I especially appreciate introducing or re-introducing my clients to this material. By living honestly by practicing what I preach, I aspire to continue create a therapeutic space that cultivates growth, welcomes vulnerabilities that are embraced and opportunities for empathetic witnessing through the utilization of various, limitless art materials and creative processes by a registered and experienced art therapist.

I am a registered art psychotherapist with the ATCB with a master’s level graduate degree in art therapy, and professional/clinical experience as an art therapist serving vast populations of people in various environments, such as: young adults(18-30's years old), mid-aged (40-60's years old) adults and older adults (70 years and older), Acute In-Patient Crisis Unit, Behavioral Health In-Patient Unit, Chemo-treatment on an Oncology Unit, a Therapeutic Arts Center, At-Risk Adolescent Youth, Working Professionals, Nursing/Assistant living homes, an Intensive Out-Patient for Co-Occurring Program, Residential programing for Vertrans and Adolescent Mothers & Adult Mothers in co-occurring facilities. With every client-patient experience I provide personalized art therapy directive and non-directive experiences to each of my patient-clients' and groups' needs that is beyond their diagnosis in the sense that as an art therapist I provided an existential approach that touches on the vitality and exploration of personal identity.

As a person in this world, I am an innately empathetic, intuitive and a highly-sensitive individual with keen observational skills that embraces all human-beings on all their walks of life-- in mind, body and spirit. Most of all, I am here to encourage, to be of service and to share art in it's healing capacity with all who are willing. My counseling approach is an eclectic arrangement that is based in holistic and the Positive Psychologies of Humanism, Body-Somatic Centered, Person-Centered, Jungian, Existentialism and Depth/Trans-Personal. I am also a registered yoga teacher so I appreciate including body awareness methods such as breathing and healthy postures if my client are open to the extra addition to healing work.

My deepest goal as an artist and art therapist is to collaboratively contribute meaningfully to every relationship that I encounter. I find this kind of work to be of spiritual connectedness that is filled with love, unconditional support and depth beyond spoken language. The power of art has the potential to be the catalyst for positive transformations, insights and internal/external changes that occur in meta-verbal communication, but most of all I believe the relationship happenings are what people find most beneficial to reconcile challenges and past trauma histories. I

I am eager to share this process with others. Art, metaphor, poetry, innovation, creativity is the heart of human expression in grounded approaches.

Wholeheartedly,
Moriah
