my story

Hi there! I’m Moriah Mylod, a visual artist and owner of a small woman-owned art business based in the Lehigh Valley. I live in the river town of Phillipsburg, NJ, with my loving husband and our extremely fluffy doggo girl.

I’m a former art therapist (no longer practicing), and that work deeply shaped how I see the world. The many walks of life I had the honor and privilege of working with over the years touched me in profound ways, and those human connections continue to inform my artwork. Creating has always been a way to process, honor emotion, and make meaning- and as a mental health advocate, I carry that forward into my own studio practice today.

I work from my home studio and sometimes outside. I’m primarily a mixed media painter, blending water- and oil-based materials, textured papers, string, and layered imprints- some tactile, some just sensed. Nature is a constant presence in my work. My husband is an environmental scientist and fly fisherman, and we both try to spend as much time as we can outside- hiking, camping, gardening, and just soaking in the beauty and learning about the great design of the natural world. Those rhythms find their way into my paintings, along with personal memories, metaphors, and the shared human experience.

Faith is one of the places I create from, along with emotion, reflection, and a deep sensitivity to the world around me. I’ve walked through difficult seasons in life, and painting is how I’ve healed and made sense of it all. People often say my work feels spiritual- I think that comes from the light breaking through. It is only my hope to share this light with others.

Community is also a vital part of who I am and how I work. I believe artists thrive when we lift one another up. I’m an active board member of the Lehigh Art Alliance, and I’m also the founder and a writer for The Easton Arts Journal (TEAJ)- a project that showcases local artists and brings their work to the wider public. I’m passionate about creating spaces where art can be seen, felt, and shared.

In addition to painting, writing is a big part of my process. I am an editor for three self-published books about grief and the loss of a loved one, and another centered on mindfulness practices in nature. My own artwork has also been published, and I’m grateful for the way art, in all its forms, can reach people meaningfully.

My work has been showcased around the Lehigh Valley and is currently on view at JuxtaHub in Emmaus, PA, Lehigh Art Alliance Luckenbach Mill in Bethlehem, PA as well as Connexions Gallery in Easton, PA.

Thanks so much for being here- I’m truly honored to share this journey with you. If you feel connected to the work or want to collaborate, please reach out.
