I am grateful to be a part-time Art Therapist for an "Art as Relaxation" program specialized for at-risk adolescent populations in middle schools in Allentown and Easton, Pennsylvania. The goals of this program are to enhance self-esteem, gain positive coping-skills, develop emotional, community building, instillation of hope and social growth through the use of art, creative processes and therapeutic support. This a a grant funded program to prepare children for "job readiness" and "aspiring professionals."
Adolescent children continue to surprise, amaze, motivate, and inspire me. Especially loved the looks they gave when I said we were going outside to make an earth mandala. "Whaaattt....earth mandala?" I truly love my work! (I was given special permission to share art through "client release" following with art therapist code of ethics)
"Art is our one true global language. It knows no nation, it favors no race, and it acknowledges no class. It speaks to our need to reveal, heal, and transform. It transcends our ordinary lives and lets us imagine what is possible."
