This painting is part of a series of portrait painting titled, "The Messengers." Driven by a fascination with avian diversity and symbolism, I've created each painting to embody the timeless allure of birds as messengers. From ancient myths to modern-day culture, these creatures hold a profound significance as symbols of communication and connection.
The etymology of swan in Latin is “poet.” Swans have been a romantic symbol in Greek and Roman motifs.

Have you been lucky enough to spot a Chaffinch? Here one is immortalized in a painting. Though finches are common in the Americas this male is a fancy form of finch called a “chaffinch” seen in Ireland, Great Britain, other parts of Europe, Asia to the Angara River to Siberia. They have cheerful coloring with a strapping silver blue cap, rusted face, chest, and back, with black and white wings and dashes of green gold where the back meets the tail. Chaffinch live in small flocks and play a vital road in spreading seeds. We too are gathering our harvests in different seasons and planting seeds of (hopefully) good things that have yet to come.

Who’s looking at who? Imagine a twilight forest scene, where a young, barred owl perches amidst fading light. Its wide, curious eyes draw you in, evoking the mysteries of woodland life. This owl is inviting you to ponder the secrets held within its gaze. It's a moment frozen in time to remember to gear your focus on what truly matters in life.

This Mitchel’s cockatoo is a wild card! Mitchel’s Cockatoos are originally from Australia and have a large wingspan to fly free from the novelty of being made into a pet. These birds have salmon and pink plumage, and they are naturally showy. These flamboyant birds' dance-like movement exposes the deep reds and bright whites in their inner wings. They love to fly in smaller flocks. These birds serve as a reminder of the importance of keeping a sense of humor and shaking off things that do not serve well for our purpose.

Have you ever encountered a Blue Jay? What has your experience been observing these mischievous charmers in nature? Some people say that Blue Jays are both jester and majestic, perhaps a divine jester. Their blue crest plumage is striking, bold, and curious nature is ballin’.

This enchanting depiction of a hummingbird is a Mexican Violetear that has been seen on the edge of the lush tropics of Mexico to Nicaragua enjoying the sweet nectar of vibrant fuchsia blossoms. The metallic paint delicately captures the bird's graceful movements as it flits in motion from flower to flower, lost in its own dance for nectar. Hummingbirds may serve as a gentle reminder to pause and take notice of the beauty that greets us from moment to moment.

There is a song that remains in the dark nights of the soul. It is an ancient song that has been written in our hearts from the beginning of time. It's a melody that is clear as day and an inexhaustible love that carries us on and on in pools of gold. The quickening sun's warmth washes over us, the cleansing ocean takes off our burdens and we begin again. . . in this
f r e e d o m. Making the splashes in the winds of the world with the purity of lightness in our renewing spirits.
